I think. Its been so long since I've had a GOOD Christmas memory...

I have a husband who (and I think this is the thing that most anoys me about him.) doesn't do commercialized events... so Sweetest Day, Valentines day, Christmas...nope. He doesn't really care. He will get me gift and give it to me the day it was bought. Still in the bag, receipt clinging to it from static.

Or as I put something in my cart - he will let me know "that can be your Christmas gift."

My family(My brother not included - he is the bright spot of this ordeal) doesn't seem to get it. I have been asked "What do you want for Christmas?" I will tell them, and get nothing what I asked for (Not even from the same store - so I cant exchange it) Its petty, I know. But it feels like no one is listening too you. Half the stuff I got in the last two years - I would have never used or bought for myself - hell I cant even tell you what I got for Christmas last year or the year before. (OH! Wait... the year before last - I got my camera. I bought it, with my moms money.)

Before... before life changed...

It was great. We would buy gifts, we would wrap stuff. We would go to bed, wake up early, pick out presents unwrap like mad for a half an hour. Then dissipate for a few hours, then someone would get dressed/hungry and we would head out for Columbus to go watch a movie, and eat Chinese food. And usually I would have to leave because I had to work that day.

But its just seemed that no one has really given a shit. My mom's lonely, and dealing with empty nest syndrome - and doesn't do anything about it - or understand that its okay to be at home, by your self. Is the time of year where the wagons circle and people are with their families. Unfortunately her wagons have A) jobs that keep them away from family or B) their own family.

There are days where she is detrimental to me growing as an adult to deal with my own family.

My brother seems to be the only one that sees that it bothers me. I don't let it show, but yeah. It bothers me immensely. Now, I know that he and I are the only ones that see each other and can break it down and go. "Here. Let me help."

I get his self esteem issues - and he gets my family issues. *sigh*

(PS : REALLY hate it... when you type Christmas like this: CHRISTmas. Yeah I get it. Your a Christian. Guess what - its not always about you.)

I can only hope... that with Mason... things will change. Christmas will come back. But right now... everything is up in the air.

Black Friday

So... I'm knitting, my ass off.

My swap partner's bag. I am really getting into it. I've never knitted in this style before, so I was a bit apprehensive. So I'm sitting here, in an old pair of jeans, my "Team Edward" shirt that I would normally just sleep in and my over sized Ravelry sweatshirt.

its a bum around the house day.

As soon as my bag is done I have to work on my present for my cousin. Their baby is due in December. The present will get there later... so an after present I guess. I really wanted to get it to them, before the baby is due... who knows... maybe it will get there just in time. Then I can show you all pictures, and talk about it in public... Just as we were all preparing to leave work, we all got the sad news that our morning co-anchor had lost her battle with cancer. She had been ill and off air for a few months, but her last on-air appearance was at the beginning of October to kick of breast cancer awareness month.

Today we lost her. I know. I have WAY too much on my plate.

Don't care.

I've joined the National Novel Writing Month... as a challenge in writing. I love doing it. I would sit for days scribbling out stories in High School. I actually had this really intense fanfiction that I had written and I stupidly showed it to someone who had NO IDEA about the subject of what I was writing about... and basically laughed at what I had done, because she didn't understand. I've NEVER shown my work to anyone. Not even my husband. He gets so annoyed at this fact.

But I told him of my ambition... I hit what is now lovingly referred to as the titanium filled raccoon.

Driving to work, I some how hit a raccoon ( I think) and it, by some act of God, it didn't cause any body damage to my car. It did how ever, destroy my radiator, and a air conditioner part, and the bar that the radiator sits on. ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS LATER, my car is okay. well until this week.

I'm driving in and the car starts to overheat again. I'm able to get it to work then get it about half way home to an advanced auto parts store for some antifreeze. I needed to check to see if I was out of antifreeze before I walked in and spent $15 on a jug, so I let the car cool a bit. Then checked the cap to see if it was cool. It was touchable, so I turned it, and it totally exploded in my face. I was covered. And I have to stay this way for 3 hours because the Auto Parts store isn't open, and all the gas stations I pass are not open either OR they don't have an actual store.

So I get my antifreeze, I have a nice guy help me out and I go on my way almost overheating completely before I got home.

I was able to park the car then for the rest of the day I had to figure out how I was going to get to work the next day. luckily a friend bailed me out and I drove her car. When I picked up my car to take it to a friends house an then to the shop - MY Car drove fine. like nothing was ever wrong with it. It didn't overheat nothing.

So I didn't take it to the shop.

However, four days later, my car's check engine light comes on and my car just shimmies when I turn her off. I have no idea whats going on, but I don't have anymore money to spend on her....

I'm tired, and in a desperate need of a mental vacation...

I got a swap partner...

I got a swap partner... The start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The month is kinda hitting home here at the moment. My friend and co-worker Heather is battling on with this disease. She is a serious trooper.

I have only gotten to work with her for just a little bit of time before she felt a bit weak, and decided to keep getting her treatments, and staying home to keep up her energy.

I miss her. I am glad to be able to keep up with her life through Facebook and whispers of co-workers who get to talk to her on the phone. But it just felt very real and just take a step back and just give a bit to the cause.

So for the month of October, my blog will be pink.

Please get tested, self exam, mammogram, what ever. just don't sit there. spread the word, help a girl friend out - tell her to self exam, drive her to her mammogram appointment. just dont sit there and let this take over... do something.

Playing Catch Up...

Well, I've been off the grid a bit. Okay not really, I've probably more, Off the Blogger is a bit more fitting.

Lets catch up shall we...

Okay so last we spoke was Thursday, September 11th. Well on Sunday we had the remainder of Hurricane Ike rip though. 75 mile winds tore through our little old town. We were at a friends house and really didn't notice how bad it was getting until the pizza guy came. To use the most over used sound bite in the world:

"It sounded like a freight train."

We all peeked out a window to see bits of tree everywhere in the parking lot. My brother said the funnies thing he saw was a recently planted shrubbery (root bulb and all) chasing a chipmunk.

Our friend had power, so it didn't occur to us that maybe our power would go out.
We get home, and our power is out. It stays out for seven full days! We ended up getting around using head lamps and flashlights. I told my husband I felt that someone would think we were robbing our own place.

---

Two weeks ago, my left knee started to hurt when I sat down, and kept it at a 90 degree angle. So I went to see my doctor on Tuesday and she said I probably have a meniscus tear or something to that effect. So she gave me some meds and sent me on my merry way. Thursday I had my son in my arms and bent at a strange angle to pick something off the couch. All of a sudden I heard this "Pop, Pop, Pop" And I felt a rolling sensation. I couldn't put weight on the knee. I had already taken a IBPROP800 so there was nothing to do but just go to bed. The next day I felt awful, week, and I didn't know if my knee was going to collapse or not. It was very noisy too, it clicked and popped and just didn't feel right, so we took a half day then went to the ER the next day. They just took an X-ray and told me it wast broken (ya-think?!)

So.. I personally think its a tear. It really painful sometimes to bend my knee and the fact that its noisy and hurts to keep it bent. It has to be a tear.

So... with all these issues you think that I would be all caught up on my knitting. Something red... something I could wear and feel kinda sexy in.

I found her... and shes still a secret. She wont be out till 6 day before Breaking Dawn is out.

Terra by Jaquelyn Landry.

Even better part - I have a number of Ms. Landry's patterns in my cue. Shes always very intune with her knitters.. I tried to do a Zodiac Knit A Long back before the boy was born but it didnt quiet turn out. Ever since then I think I have been Ms. Landry's Radar too.

I mentioned that I was looking for something like this... and low and behold there was a quick little note in my Ravelry inbox from her. Stating that she was glad that it hit the spot.

I showed DH who knew I was looking for something to knit for that Twilight void and he mentioned that he liked the sweater, and that I would look hot in something red, in the middle of winter when my skin paled out...

Now the battle is to find the right kind of red. The yarn I keep going back to is DIC's Fatty in One of these four colors:

Bitten

Seriously, I had not heard of these books at all until a few days ago when the Entertainment Weekly comes to my house. There on the front cover is some brunette & Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter looking like they were on some strange Fabio cover:

I read the : "The Hottest Book since Harry Potter"and decided that I would not read any more then the front cover. I am one who prides myself on knowing a bit about pop culture and the fact that I knew NOTHING about this... was actually kind of cool. I quickly ran out and picked out The first book, Twilight. I tore through it in under 48 hours. It was SO good, and nice to not be spoiled by a magazine artical. I quickly picked up the second book New Moon, and finished that in 24 hours. I then picked up Eclipse and ripped through it in just over 24 hours. I was lucky that the fourth book Breaking Dawn was due out in two weeks. Unfortunately... those two weeks are DRAGGING BY S-L-O-W-L-Y...

So with Jade Lady in hibernation, I needed something to distract me... I picked up something out of my stash that is filling the bill. Its not a deep blood red like I'm looking for... its more "Cullen"

I have some of this:

Its a Yarn of The Month Club peice from Three Irish Girls. Its Riddermark Merino in Campbell. I thought it fit the description of Cullen Clan. Pale (cream/white) with topaz colored eyes (um the topaz/browns)... that glittered in the sun (silver). The brown sometimes are so intense that it goes a touch red. The only problem that has arisen is the fact that I think, I haven't ordered enough skeins. I'm one short - Somehow I totally screwed up my measurements or I looked at the wrong one, or something and ended up ordering what I thought was enough for a XL to an XXL sweater. The yarn comes in today, I want to see how it looks, and decide do I knit it up anyways, or send it back.

I really LIKE this colorway. I just switched to mornings here at work. This means a total flip of my schedule. Where I used to go to work at 230pm and get home about 12, 1am and go to bed at 2am. I now get up at 2am and get home at 130pm.

I feel like this strange outsider. I know how to do my job, and do it well. I just don't have much to do right now. I feel like I'm on the outside of the bubble looking in. Some people who work in the mornings have been here FOREVER - like I FILM the news on celluloid... They are a bit set in their ways and expect me to already know how to do it their way. Excuse the pun "BREAKING NEWS" we do it differently at nights... Yes the mornings are a bit relaxed in someways but others they are real sticklers for... Now if I can only find a happy medium.

Luckily I have been able to prove to directors that I am useful and needed. I was able to change a light quickly without the need of supervisors (um, because everyone should be able to do this?) and yesterday I stepped in for the Media Manager (graphics) because he wasn't finished with some graphics for the show. He knew that I ran the graphics program at my last station so called on me to help him out.

I hate sitting around with nothing productive to do... and I feel like they are watching me to see what I'm going to do (or not do next) and get me for it...

I'm just paranoid, but you have to be in this business.

Scarf-ing it down...

I have been on this SUPER scarf knitting kick. No one is in reality.

In 2006 I took part in Secret Pal 8. It was my first swap ever. I was really excited and nervous. I was teamed up with this really sweet person.

Each package that was sent had several skeins and balls of different types of yarn. One package had this beautifully knit Clapotis. I was excited to get it, yet stunned to get it, and slightly jealous that I wasn't as an accomplished knitter to make one of my own, yet. Annother had raw fleece in a wonderfully natural tan/black...

And with every package I posted a thank you on my blog.

What I didn't know was that the person who had me was getting more and more frustrated. What I didn't do, I didn't know to do was to post on the Secret Pal Blog. It was my first swap. It was a rookie mistake. My Swap pal was very annoyed and let her feelings show. She had the right too. But at the time was she said to me hurt a lot. So much so that I stopped knitting, I stopped blogging, I completely shut down being EmeraldSheep. I didn't return to knitting for over a year.

I've grown since then. I don't participate in swaps for knitting, or any other kind, save for the first pastie swap that Knit Girls did.

I've kept everything that Kimberly gave me.... all her yarn that basically jump started my stash, her tiny pearl stitch markers adorn my wip clapotis. In my office is stationary with sheep on it. The red yo-yo that was quickly confiscated by my husband and makes an appearance every so often.

I often thought about her, and frequently would see her on Ravelry in several groups, pointing newbies in the right direction, moderating over a huge group.... Yet saddened when I read her post about her bad swap experience. I refrained from posting in the group, afraid she would recognize me and/or I would say something stupid. I often wanted to say "HEY ITS ME! SORRY" but didn't feel like it was the right time.

What really made me stop and grow up (besides time, and life altering changes) was I was organizing my stash and I came across some yarn that she had sent me. I went to Ravelry to find out more about it (because the label was in a different language). I found it, and the picture that was on there was from her. She had five balls of the same yarn in her stash. I read her profile and her blog... and found out that she too was thinking about SP8...

I knew that I had to say something. It wasn't fair to either of us to be bitter over something like this. Life is to short. No cheating or anything. Im actually very proud of myself. Im not hungry, but Im also listening to my body more, and letting it tell me when it was hungry and full. I lost some weight but i have put it back on due to adding more starch into my diet.

Its okay. Im not torn over it - yet. I know that I need to cut back on the pasta and potatoes and add more veggies and fruit. Its just a touch harder right now due to it being the end of winter/begining of spring when all the great fresh vegitables come around.

I really cant wait for this farmers market that happens just downtown. I plan on hitting it up for veggies and such.

Ive also been reading up more on PETAs works and got their new book Making Kind Choices by the president of PETA Ingrid E. Newkirk with a foreword by Sir Paul McCartney - (who with his daughter Stella - I adore)
Its intresting. I agree with SOME of the things PETA says - but not all. I know that cows MUST be milked or it becomes very painful for them, same thing for wool. If a sheep is not sheared it can get serious health issues related to skin. So I will still use wool. I will however be a better shopper of both. I will look to see where my wool is coming from (and if I can use local wool EVEN BETTER!!), and I will use friendlier/soy cheese/butter/milk options.
Luckly I love Soy Milk(juice)

Jason & Kate Plus Eight.... minus Seven...

So I found out that my cousin Jason and his lovely wife Kate are expecting their first child!

Jason works for NASCAR, and Kate is a stunning photographer. When we were helping them move from one apartment to another apartment I got to see Kate's cameras. OMG. She is the reason I wanted the DSLR that I own now. I love my camera. It totally rocks.

Kate just recently lost her dad after a lengthy bought with illness. We were all super happy when Kate's father was able to attend their wedding. But she has gone through some tough times, and Jason's job has him gone for races and such.

We sadly couldn't go to the wedding because we were REALLY pregnant at the time, slightly poor, and my mom was having health issues also.

I felt bad and really wanted to go to the wedding.

So, in honor of Jason & Kate's new baby I want to knit the new baby something. Either a blanket or Surprise Baby Jacket.

I am also one who doesnt do pastels. So I probably will go with deep jewel tone colors. I really like Knit Picks Comfy yarn. Its really a cutie, unfortunatly my knitting was a bit subpar on it... I've finished the body in under 8 days. I have to finishe adding some fluff and then get some saftey eyes and the body is done. Some feet & hands are next

On the flip side, today on the way to lunch we got to a light, and saw a fire truck. It turned and ran down the hill ahead of us and that was when I saw smoke. I snapped into action and ran down the hill after it grabbing my cell phone on the way. What was on fire you ask:

That was taken mid motion in the car with the windows up. I sent it to my brother who was off doing homework with the tag: See What You Miss When You Dont Come To Lunchypoo?

My Brothers Scarf...

So a while back my brother said that he wanted the Doctor Who Scarf.

And who wouldn't want that icon of a scarf! The only problem was that when I priced the yarn, it was almost $170.00! And on a college budget it wasn't happening... (yet - life is young... and getting the first color in the line (brown) I can start on the project and work our way up to it. )Because seriously who wouldn't want a Doctor Who Scarf.
My brother wanted something a little toned down. A little more him, a little more black - with all the length of the good Doctor's. Then I had this idea that I could make his super long black scarf but add in stripes ala Harry Potter's Prisoner of Azkaban scarves:

But maybe add a touch of Time Lord to it...

So I've decided to take Swish Worsted Superwash Yarn from Knit Picks in Black and make my brothers scarf. Then quietly add in Swish SW in Delft Heather or

Merlot Heather

from KP and add in stripes but at the star of each scarf side this Whovian seal:

The Seal of Rassilon

Will be knitted in. I had told my mom, and it actually shocked her that I wanted to start knitting. Only because just as I found the love to knit, the woman who actually knitted in the family had just passed away, my Gram, Jane C.

She was also painted china, and was an excellent miniature artist. Some of her rooms we were given, mine is a fabric shop. I love it. Jane was a woman that did things her way. She was crapped upon but came through in the end with two wonderful children, and an iron will. A die hard Steelers fan she actually passed away with a Terrible Towel in her hand because the Steelers were in the playoffs…

I actually took it as a sign and a sort of blessing that I wanted to knit just shortly after my Gram died, and as a gift my uncle gave me her knitting needles. I never did get the scarf done, but it was too late I was bitten.

Its also why sometimes I use Jayne as my pseudonym - in honor of her. Rulis was a name my great grandfather used to escape the Russians. They wanted to sell him off, and he escaped and changed his name. Ignatius was his middle name and now is my son’s middle name.

I love working in different forms of art, I am a amature photographer, chainmailer. I’m a big old geek and I love anything to do with Doctor Who. I also work with Ohio Roller Girls as the Door Wench. I am totally fascinated and secretly in want to be a Roller Girl. I think its fascinating how one can be so tomboy-ish, strong and yet so sexy girly. I think thats is why I am also fascinated with Burlesque and performers like Dita Von Tease.

And yes, my nick is from John Mayer’s song Heart of Life. Its a favorite of mine, and its a song that reminds me that “No it won’t all go the way it should…”
